From the language of painting, etching and drawing, Nicolás Quero develops his work based on two concepts: industrialisation and baroque, seeking to aesthetically create tension between tradition and modernity. Through assemblages, he carries out exercises of interconnection of works from the 17th century with contemporary pictoric themes, historical reflections of the territory and Chilean industrial heritage. While putting together these elements, Quero creates a pathway between pictorial and graphic aspects of the image.
“I consider painting a way of thinking, if I have to summarise it in one sentence, I would quote Adolfo Couve: Art is destiny"
Nicolas Quero was born in Santiago de Chile in 1987, he currently lives in this city. From a very young age he practised drawing, which became the key pillar of his work. When he sold his first portrait at the age of 18, he realised that this first step was the sign of his future artistic career.
He studied visual arts and cultural management. He was a student of the renowned chilean visual artist Ismael Frigerio who became his mentor and still is his reference both in the visual and philosophical aspects of his work.
One of his great motivations is to determine with his work the link between art and education, paying special attention to the historical and social process of industrialisation in Chile.
Some of his artistic influences are El Giotto, Géricault, Piccaso, José de Ribera, Roberto Matta, Nemesio Antúnez and Gracia Barrios.
“For me, art is the ability to transmit emotions and concepts through visual codes, generating new and unique dimensions”.
