Longo Perrig Argentina, b. 1993

Longo Perrig's work resembles a poetry about the negation of emptiness on the plane, where the effusive filling of all spaces with some sort of microscopic image of creation represents an impulse of psychic automatism.

The artist first defines himself as an expressionist and materialist, taking control of the support and allowing colonies of embryonic bodies to proliferate, which together make up a  vast metamorphic ocean.

In its execution, and since there is no prior composition, the process is as important as the final image. For Perrig the painting is an organism that expands on the canvas, like a culture of bacteria and fungi that develops organically.

“For me painting is a constant metaphor of the entropy in which we exist and act. The creative act is a constant search for meaning, the attempt to decode the enigmatic relationships of existence.

The images I produce are generated after an obsessive work process, by superimposing layers of paint that tend to be concrete lines or planes”.

Longo Perrig builds a mosaic of elements on the plane, a frenetic puzzle of the underlying current of life itself.  It is even possible to feel in his work the speed , the dance and the sinuosity of the forms, the movement behind , the rhythm of the circulatory system of an universal heart.

It is quite possible that if we get close enough, we will be able to hear that stream of life bursting  in a rhythmic  ebullition, because Perrig's work can be felt from a distance but it also calls to be unravelled from a few centimetres away.  That double visual intention has the capacity to produce an ambiguous and surprising relationship with the observer.

"My work focuses on the registration of energy and time through painting and drawing, trying to imitate nature in its various scales. Reference factors are the evolution of organisms, chaos and those movements that we perceive through our senses and science, but cannot fully appreciate, such as the rhythms in our bodies and the universe"

Matías Longo Perrig, was born in Coronel Suárez, province of Buenos Aires on August 12, 1993. From a family of German ancestry, Perrig is part of a cultural mix typical of the rural areas of South America.

This is how, at the age of 10, he began to share hours of creating mosaics with his grandfather, who brought pieces of carrara marble to build his works. Perrig today, in homage to this family inspiration, incorporates  marble powder in his works, transcending the memory of the trade of his grandfather, who unconsciously helped to build his visual identity.

His early years surrounded by a tremendously lively ecosystem was undoubtedly an incentive to integrate his own personal landscape into his current creative work.

In 2018 he graduated as a visual arts maker at the Escuela de Artes Visuales Lino Spilimbergo (Bahía Blanca). He currently lives and works in Buenos Aires, Argentina. His work ranges from painting to alternative Hip Hop music production and performance.
