Lorena Bicciconti Argentina, b. 1977

We are able to immerse ourselves in Lorena Bicciconti's fantastic cartography by delving into her multi-spatial jungle universe, where the colour palette announces an Andean spirit that is impossible to ignore.

Resting in this riot of spheres, lichens, bushes, and flashing seeds allows us to connect with multiple 'Isms' of the early twentieth century, a restless era in the search for new languages and visual codes.

Bicciconti's invitation is to land in a fantastic geology, with a distinctive Altiplanic chromatic palette, susceptible to a sort of electric flow that courses through each element of this delirious map. This current imparts a reflective quality to all its imagery, aesthetically bordering on the worlds of Japanese anime. There is a pronounced overlap between the exuberant display of forms and, at the same time, the necessity for them to exist in experimental formats.

Bicciconti's exploration through the unconventional handling of materials brings a kind of chaos to the identity of the format, so that at times the artist's intentions converge towards an escape from the conventions of the traditional support, which is as relevant as, or possibly more relevant than, its own iconography.

It is inevitable to evoke planetary fragments of some living organism in the contours of his latest works, which invites us to remember that we are part of a living rock of which we pretend to know everything and which is nevertheless capable of offering us microscopic and spatial landscapes as challenging, if not more so, than the most fantastic creation ever created by the human eye.

"Since my first works, I have been working on the side of abstraction because I am not interested in the outside world; on the contrary, I am interested in developing my own language through the visual elements to decode my inner world.  My current works appear structurally like an 'explosion,' as they have sometimes been defined in curatorial texts; all of them have indecipherable plots and overflow with a great temperamental spirit.

My work fully reflects my restless personality, always seeking what more I can discover and being seduced by exploring unfamiliar paths. I embrace the idea of taking risks that enable me to visualise other options in my production process."
