Gabriela's Garden by Stfi Leigthon

Latin American muralism in the new times

In April 2018,  within the urban art festival “barrio arte” in Santiago de Chile,  the well known mural artist Stfi! was invited to paint a mural on the walls of a small street in the surroundings of GAM cultural centre in the chilean capital.

Following her collaborative spirit, Stfi! decided to raise an open call where more than 20 volunteers, mainly women of all ages,  joined her work team to create two amazing murals, 15 metres long each.

Stfi Leigthon took a step ahead for other artists to follow in her footsteps, with great courage, heart and a visionary mind.

The artist has managed to invade the walls of a variety of cities with Venusian beauty. In her internal and actual journey through different cities in America and the world, she spoke loud and clear about the need for more female presence in muralism and global art.

There are no doubts in Stfi 's path, artistic expression was there from the beginning of her days, and it is completely natural for her to bring this awareness to the most dehumanised spaces of the big cities.

In our second delivery of short films in Blast Gallery, we quote  chilean writer, pioneer and rebel, Gabriela Mistral,  who gives her name to the mural that inspired this video:

"What the soul does for its body is what the artist does for their people".

We are proud to have Stfi Leigthon, a pioneer in the female community work of the new Latin American muralism,  as  part of the Blast Gallery community.
